Mickey,
I appreciate that you behaved so well while driving. Please note, the windshield wipers can only go two directions and neither of which include through the windshield. There is no reason to try and hide from them and watching them will eventually get boring. I know, I did this as a child! The couch does not belong to you. You are the king of your castle, with your toys, sign, and food and water. The couch is for human comfort and you should consider yourself lucky your talons are allowed to grace it. On that note, quit chasing Josh off the thing!
I know we have had a lot of bad weather. There are flood warnings and watches and everything. A lot of thunder -which you think you should screech at- and lightning -which you apparently think is a treat- and wind. We have even had a few close calls with tornado Warnings. I also know you are a smart little bird. You mimic things I have no idea what they are. I do not appreciate the heart attack I got this afternoon, though. You don't mimic the tornado sirens in the middle of a storm! I hope you take this as a learning experience.
The fleshy Bird
Birds are fascinating creatures. More than that, they are amazing companions. That would be the simplest explanation as to why there are two in my home, Naomi, a cockatiel, and Mickey, a Cassin's Macaw. Mickey is my feathered Muse. Here you will find laughs as he brings me smiles daily!
Huh?

Mickey has helped me
I must say, I have never done all of the research I should have before bringing Mickey home. I assumed because the store had my tiel and my budgies before I bought them on a seed diet that it was okay. And then I joined a forum and began researching diet requirements. I never really considered Naomi or my previous feather buddies parrots, but they are. As I began learning, I found out that they require fresh fruits and veggies so I began perusing the produce section of the grocery store for bright and interesting, but safe, foods for him and Naomi to convert to.
I never really went through the produce section except for bananas and strawberries which I and my son like. But as I buy things for the birds and try them myself, I have acquired new foods in my fridge and can hardly complain. So I owe Mickey and Naomi and the wonderful people of the Avian Avenue a big thank you. For the information, for the help, for the advice, and sharing their knowledge and experiences to make life better for my birds and I.

severe weather and signs
Mickey,
I know it is raining. I know you think rain means bath time. However this no longer applies as it has rained almost everyday for a week and will continue to rain for the NEXT week. So bathtime will go back to every few days again or as I see you trying to cram your feathered butt into your water dish. The thunder and hail we had today could give a rat's behind what you think. Growling at it then screaming only increases the noise level I have to deal with while trying to monitor the SEVERE weather to make sure high winds do not place us elsewhere.
You have a sign indicating to outsiders that you bite. Please keep it there. You may chew on it, feel free, but quit trying to take the darned thing down! I burned my finger on a wood burner making that thing, it better stay where we can see it!
The vacuum did do an awesome job of picking up your pellet crumbs. Thank you for noticing....by making a new mess. The seed catcher is just that. It is not a wrap around perch. Stop dropping your food on the floor! That is the reason behind the tray at the bottom of your stand.
Until next time, because there is always a next time :)

Pregnant Pandora
Sweet kitty of mine...
I can assure you that I am capable of using the restroom by myself. You do not need to check up on me, in fact, seeing your nose under the door is a little creepy. Also, you look like you swallowed a football, which means you do not fit under the door. You have not fit under that door for several months. I don't know if the pregnancy is making you delusional or you have a desire to be small again, but I regret to inform you (sorta) that you will likely never again fit under the door. Now please, let me potty in peace. :)

Dear Mickey April 22, 2011
Mickey.
I know you love me, puke is not needed to show me. Snuggling is proof enough, thanks. Speaking of showing love, what is this affection you have for your foot? It's a little weird. Just sayin'. Now on to other matters. Josh lives here too. Quit treating him like some offensive force to be reckoned with. He is bigger and paying for your food, so be nice! While On the topic of being Nice, I am sure Pandora does not appreciate your sneak attacks on her tail from your *stand's seed catcher. Next topic, food and digestion. Eating leads to pooping. Pooping leads to dirty papers on your stand. Dirty papers need to be removed and replaced. Acknowledge this please and quit trying to fight me on this. You do not benefit from this and will result in you being placed elsewhere while I take care of it. The wire brush/scraper used to remove stubborn poop will not hurt you. Stick to head bobbing to the rhythm on the brush and scraper instead of trying to kill it. My fingers are closer than you think!
I am thrilled you love riding in the car. Your expression as cars pass is fantastic. And we share a certain discomfort of large trucks alongside the jeep. The difference here is I can refrain from SCREAMING when they go by. Please realize that while in the jeep, you are perched on my shoulder. Next to your loud beak is my ear, which is sensitive to loud noises. Not to mention shrieking is a little distracting. These people are licensed to drive what they do, please trust that that will not hurt us.
Now let's talk about your manners. It is highly impolite to announce consciousness at 6 AM with a high pitch "Mickey!!" and wake the rest of us up. We know you are here, I put you to bed. I changed your water. I even kissed you goodnight. Now please, let me sleep in just a little. Interrupting people while they talk is not good manners either. When I ask you to please stop dancing from one shoulder to the next, do not, no matter how cute I look cross-eyed, push you beak to my nose and "oooooo" to shut me up. It simply will not work. On a positive note, I love that you now say thank you, even if it is sometimes at wildly inappropriate times (like when someone is angry and arguing and the opposer makes a point). We all need a laugh.
*Mickey is an uncaged bird. He has a large play gym on which he hangs out. He spends a lot of time off of it on the couch or chair in the living room.

An introduction to who you will be hearing about
Mickey: Mickey is a Cassin's (or Yellow-Collared) macaw. He is about 6 years old and I am his fourth owner. He talks some and learns new things all the time. He has never (to anyone's knowledge) bonded to anyone before me. He is probably who will be mentioned most often.
Naomi: Naomi is a pearl/ pied cockatiel. She is actually bonded to my son, Kaleb. Kaleb has to be the only 3 year old with his own bird bonded to him... Of course he is supervised at all times with Naomi and will let me know when he is no longer comfortable with her on his shoulder.
Pandora: Pandora is a female black cat that is due for kittens in May. She is less than a year old and there will be updates on the kittens when they are here.
Kaleb: Born December 20, 2007, Kaleb is the best thing to ever happen to me. Although I only have him Part time, he makes each visit eventful and memorable. Look for updates on him as well, he is quite a trip.
What this blog will be primarily: A member of a forum began a thread about writing a letter to the birds (it is an avian forum.) I liked the idea and decided it would be a good idea to do frequently. Well I do not want to blow up the forum with daily letters to my pets, so this seemed a better idea. Next post will be a letter to the animals :)
